Coach Missy

Softball has been a defining part of my journey, but it wasn’t always that way. My athletic career began in gymnastics at the young age of five, with dreams of reaching the Olympics. However, by 13, I had outgrown the sport and found myself stepping onto the softball field—a decision that would shape the course of my life.

I was fortunate to play for one of the premier travel teams in the country, the California Raiders, under the legendary Phil Bruder. Our team was known for competing at the highest level, even playing in Women’s Open Tournaments as teenagers. The summer before my senior year, we won the 18 & Under ASA National Championship and went on to place 4th in the ASA Women's Open Tournament—an achievement that was almost unheard of for a group of 16- to 18-year-olds.

My performance with the Raiders earned me a scholarship to UCLA, where I played under the renowned coaching duo of Sharon Backus and Sue Enquist. During my time as a Bruin, we won three consecutive National Championships and finished as the runner-up in my senior year. Until 2023, our team held the record for three straight titles, a testament to the incredible era of UCLA softball I was privileged to be part of.

After college, like many graduates, I wasn’t exactly sure what was next. Coaching found me, and soon, it became my calling. My career took me across the country, from Oklahoma, Kansas, Indiana, and California to Texas and Mississippi. I had the honor of serving as Head Softball Coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Ole Miss, leading programs, developing athletes, and shaping teams both on and off the field. My time in coaching allowed me to not only teach the game but also instill values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance in my players.

In 2011, I stepped away from coaching. After years of moving and dedicating myself to the game, I needed a break. My family and I shifted gears and opened a family entertainment center, which we successfully ran until the challenges of COVID forced us to close in 2020. During this time, I never imagined returning to softball—until the University of Mississippi reached out in 2017, offering me the opportunity to become a color commentator for the SEC Network and ESPN+. I was thrilled to stay connected to the sport in a new way, analyzing games and sharing my insights with fans.

Then, in 2023, something unexpected happened. North Delta School came calling, and I found myself back in coaching at the high school level. At first, I wasn’t sure if I was ready to return, but the players changed everything. Their passion and dedication rekindled my love for the game, and I quickly realized that coaching was where I was meant to be. I truly believe that God led me back to coaching, and North Delta was the place I needed to be.

My passion has always been to teach, mentor, and develop players and coaches to elevate their game to the next level. I am excited about this opportunity to pass on my knowledge and experience, and I am grateful for every step of the journey that has led me here. Softball isn’t just a game—it’s a lifelong passion, and I’m honored to continue sharing it with the next generation.
